A variant from the phrase was applied in Moretum, a poem attributed to Virgil but while using the actual author unknown. Inside the poem text, color est e pluribus unus describes the blending of colors into a single. St Augustine applied a variant with the phrase, ex pluribus unum, in his Confessions. At the time with the American Revolution, the exact phrase appeared prominently around the title page of a common periodical, The Gentleman's Magazine,[2][3][4] which collected articles from a lot of sources into one particular "magazine".
